2021 – A Year For Optimism And A Brand New Smile?

We’re all hoping for a better year ahead. Why not start yours with a smile makeover from our Woking dentists?

Dentist examines patientWithout a doubt, for many of us 2020 will have been the worst year in our memory. Much has been written about the Covid-19 pandemic and little of it has been positive. Some, tragically, have lost their lives and this will have affected those around them. For others, jobs may have been lost and our mental health may have been put under pressure like never before.

It is important though, that we continue to look to the future and imagine our lives post Covid. Things may never return fully to what we considered ‘normal’ before, but hopefully, by the middle of next year, we will start to be able to do some of those things that we previously took for granted such as holidays abroad and even simply meeting up with friends.

For many of us 2020 has been, at best, a ‘holding’ year, so perhaps it now makes sense to start to look to the new year with a sense of renewal?

Image improvements

It almost feels like being a bear coming out of winter hibernation and many of us won’t have bothered buying new winter clothes as we are spending so much time indoors. However, some of us have probably started to think about what we might buy for the spring and summer. These things can be decided on closer to the time, but other self improvements may take a little more time to achieve and pre-planning them now is a good idea.

This is particularly relevant for those of our Synergy dentist Woking patients who may be considering a smile makeover. Whilst some cosmetic dental treatments produce almost immediate improvements, others might take a little longer to achieve the desired results.

Getting the basics right

Before considering any treatments that you might need to improve your smile, it is important that your teeth and gums are in a healthy condition. To make sure that this is the case, a check up and any subsequent treatment will need to be carried out first. We also recommend that you have a scale and polish to remove any hardened bacteria and mineral deposits from your teeth and gum line.

Once your mouth is healthy, there are a number of treatment options available which can make up a smile makeover.

Missing teeth

No smile is fully complete if you are missing any teeth, especially those that are visible when you smile. Whilst dentures are an option, we recommend considering dental implants as these offer a stronger and more stable option. Having these placed in the near future could mean that they are fully integrated and ‘ready to go’ when things start to return to normal again.

Crooked teeth

Whilst some crooked and uneven teeth can take more than a year to correct, there are a number of fast acting orthodontics (braces) available at our practice, such as the Inman Aligner. These are ideal for those whose smile is spoiled by having slightly crooked teeth at the front and can correct this in as little as 6 weeks. For those who do need more significant correction, other methods such as Invisalign offer an excellent and also highly discreet option.

Whiter teeth

Perhaps the most sought-after treatment as part of a smile makeover is our popular teeth whitening procedure. For many people, this is all that will be needed to give their smile a boost in 2021. It is a non invasive treatment that is suitable even for nervous patients and can improve your smile by up to eight shades. It also makes an excellent Christmas present for those who are looking for ideas!  You will need to have a consultation prior to the treatment as teeth that are badly stained; for example those of a heavy smoker or ex smoker, might only receive limited benefits and you may benefit more from a different treatment, for example veneers.

Smoother skin

Although not always considered to be a part of a smile makeover, there is no getting away from the fact that wrinkled skin and sagging facial features do detract from our appearance. With the use of facial aesthetics techniques, we can help you reduce these effects to produce younger looking skin to go with your new, enhanced smile.

We are likely to be under at least some restrictions for a few months yet and this provides us with the time to plan for what we want to achieve afterwards. If you would like to discuss ways to improve your smile, we will be pleased to provide a consultation with one of our cosmetic dentists or a member of our facial aesthetics team. We will develop a comprehensive treatment plan in time for what we all hope will be a new beginning ahead!
